Items You May Find of Interest

If you are planning to visit Capel-le-Ferne, there are three footpaths down to the beach, but not easy going!  One from the caravan site opposite the Royal Oak pub, another by the side of the Cliff Top Café, and the third by the Valiant Sailor pub at the opposite end of the village at the top of Dover Hill.

There are other routes by car, going towards Folkestone and heading towards the East Cliff area, there is a road taking you right down to the Warren which is at the foot of the cliffs.  Or you can park on the East Cliff and walk down the path towards the sea.  The Warren is a very interesting area for flora and fauna and great for walking, though a little rough in places.  The Warrens' beach is a mixture of sand and pebbles.

In Folkestone itself there are two other beaches, one of sand and the other pebbles, which are very easily accessed by foot and car.  Dover also has a good beach and a pier to walk along. See our Useful Links  page for other places to visit and places to stay,  in our area.

From the Vicarage

‘That’s it! Summer’s over Vicar’ was the greeting I received from a fellow dog walker this week but of course it isn’t. It’s true we may see some rain but what a glorious part of the country we live in. The birds are busy in the hedge rows, the wheat is growing and the gardens are a credit to all the villagers. The children had a super sports day at Capel School and my have we got some good sprinters. Both the boys and the girls were accurate in shooting goals and in hitting the cricket stumps. It was a great community occasion and a pleasure to be able to attend as a spectator.

The children are learning hymns and songs for Sea Sunday which we shall celebrate on 13th July at 11a.m. at St. Radigund’s, Capel and 6p.m. at Hougham Village Hall and on 20th July at St. Anthony’s, Alkham at 11 a.m. These will be family services at which the children will sing the songs they have learnt at school, take part in telling the bible story and in writing the prayers. The service will last about 45 minutes and be followed by refreshments for adults and children.

Living in the country why are we celebrating Sea Sunday? I think we need to recognise the hard work and danger that our sea farers face every day as they bring to our ports food and goods from all over the world. It’s easy for us to forget the effort that goes into bringing to us all that we want. Many sea farers leave their families for ten to twelve months at a time, babies are born, toddlers grow up, children sit vital exams at school whilst dad is at sea.

So let’s remember these men and women and support them in all they do.

In August we shall celebrate holidays at our family services, what memories will you bring?

Dover District Neighbourhood Forums - Public Meetings

Dover District Council, working in partnership with Kent County Council the Town & Parish Councils has launched an innovative pilot scheme, designed to help the organisations engage more closely with residents throughout the district to work together to tackle common issues. Within Dover district, five neighbourhood forums are being set up, made up of the area’s county, district and town and parish council members that will act as an advisory body for the both County and District Councils. They will consult residents’ opinions and views on local issues, gathering suggestions at a neighbourhood level, and will also recommend projects for grant funding.  Local Boards hold regular public meetings across Kent for you to come and have your say about issues that affect your community.
